Anchorage, Alaska - The Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter proudly dedicated their new STEM Lab at the MK King Tech High School yesterday in a landmark ceremony attended by distinguished members and community leaders. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in the chapter's commitment to fostering educational and mentorship opportunities in the sciences for local youth.

The dedication ceremony commemorated the successful launch of the Chapter's Mentorship Program, an initiative that began discussions during the 78th District Meeting in Anchorage last year. The program, designed to inspire and train young students across Anchorage high schools, was initiated by a request from Alaska State Representative, Brother Nate Rivers, to establish a beneficial partnership with the school.

Highlighting the event was an introductory class on water chemical contamination presented by district leaders Bro DR Dow, Bro DR Edwards, Bro Young, and Bro Haynes. This educational effort was further supported through the acquisition of three cutting-edge 3D printers, funded by the district to enhance hands-on learning experiences. The printers have already produced their first outputs and are currently being utilized in the ongoing eight-week mentoring sessions that have had a spirited start.

The lab was dedicated in honor of Brother Dr. Lewis J. Sears Jr., the first Basileus of the Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter and a revered community leader with a storied career in education, including a pivotal role as Vice Principal at what was then known as the Anchorage Career Center.

Among those present to witness this historic event were Current DR (Edwards), IPDR (Dow), FVDR (Young), PNW Area Rep (Bro Brinson), SoCal Rep (Bro Harris), and DKF (Bro Irving).

The Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter looks forward to the continued success of their mentorship program and the positive impact the new STEM Lab will have on the community’s future.
